| How do I customize
the totals I see at the right side of my screen? Follow these steps to
learn the basics about the Flight Total editor. Once you are done with this guide,
go back and play with the flight total editor more. The more you use it, the better
you will understand it.
1) To edit your totals, go to the "File menu" and click on "Flight
Totals." This brings up your list of Flight totals. You probably only see
"All Flights." All Flights is the group of totals that Flight Log Elite is
shipped with as a default. You can either edit those, or start a brand new set.
For today, we will make a brand new set.
2) Click on the "Add New Button." This will bring up a new screen for
you to name this group of flight totals.
3) Enter a name. It does not matter what name you enter here, but put
something that makes sense. Maybe use the name "My Totals." It is
all up to you. Click on the "Ok" button when you have the name in there.
4) You now are looking at the "Edit Flight totals" screen. You
can see four things on this screen. At the top left is a box titles "Flight
Group Name." This is the name you typed in during step #3. You can change
if you wish. Next you see an area titles "Frames." Think about how
the default totals were organized. The defaults had a grouping titled "Flight
Totals". Then under that where Flight items like, "Flight Time",
"Full Stops", Etc. The frame is the title of that group.
5) Click on the "Add" button inside of the Frames area. This will allow
us to add a new grouping. You must have at least one of these. Name this
grouping and hit the "Save" button.
6) Your new frame show up in the list of frames. It also shows up in the
preview area on the right side of the Edit Flight Totals screen. Next, let us click
the "Add" Button under the "Flight Items" area. This will allow
us to add an actually flight total to the group.
7) First step you need to do now is figure out what kind of total you would like
to see. For a list of possible totals, click the arrow on the right side of the box
in the "Flight Category" area. For this example, click on the arrow and
select "Total Night Flight Time". You may have to scroll the list down a
little bit, but the option is there.
8) We have now told the program to place the total night time in this slot.
Next we need to make sure the label for this total is correct. Go up to
the description field near the top of the screen. Edit this field so that all of the
text is displayed in the area allotted. For this example use "Night Time."
9) To change the color of the total, use the Background Color, and Foreground color
boxes. Just click on the colored rectangle and a box will appear that will allow you
to select a different color.
10) Hit the Save Button. You now see the total displayed in the preview area.
The preview area does not actually total your numbers up, instead, it
displays a 0.
11) Let us add a second total. Click on the "Add" Button under the
Flight Items area again. This time, select "Aircraft Type" in the
"Flight Category" area. You will notice that the "Flight Item"
area is now active. If you click on the arrow in the flight item area, you can
select from a list of aircraft types that you have already added to the database.
Click on the first item in the list. In my database it is a
"C-172." It may be different for your database. Be sure the colors
and descriptions are what you wish them to be, and hit the save button.
12) You now see the aircraft type that you have selected appear in the preview area.
It is time to save this Flight Total Group and have it display the real
totals. Click the "Save" button.
13) You should be back at the "Select Flight Totals" screen. Make
sure the new group you have created is highlighted. Remember the name that you
created in Step 3. Then Click the "OK" button.
You will notice that the totals we have just created appear on the right side of the
screen. You can customize these totals anyway you want to. Just go back and
follow the steps listed above. You can create many frames, and many flight items.
Take time to experiment with the different options. By select the items
at the bottom of the "Flight Category" list, you can have access to many totals.
